The gorgeous thistle sometimes gets a bad rap as a noxious weed, but I love its spiky foliage and pretty flower “poufs.” It's also an important food source for goldfinches and other seed-eating birds. This painting is part of my Pictoglyphic series, in which the rhythm and pulse of nature is explored through symbolic markings and richly decorative repetition.
